Retreat on the gaze of contemplative art

Transcending the fear of criticism, pain, loss and oblivion

At the heart of artistic, philosophical and creative practice, there is a deep search for meaning, often tainted by suffering and joy, gain and loss.

The retreat Transcending the fear of criticism, pain, loss and oblivion proposes a way to navigate these extremes through the practice of meditation and Buddhist teachings, which make a pacified and compassionate mind the true canvas for creativity.

Description of the activity

During this four-day retreat, immersed in the tranquility of an environment conducive to contemplation, we will explore the “eight worldly dharmas”: gain and loss, fame and oblivion, praise and criticism, pleasure and pain. According to Buddhism, these pairs of opposites describe the forces that commonly drive the world and are often sources of suffering and distraction. Through meditation, the study of Buddhist texts and contemplative dialogue, we will learn to observe how these dharmas influence our life and artistic practice and how we can find a balanced center that fosters authentic creative expression.

Objectives

To understand the eight worldly dharmas: to deepen our knowledge of these concepts in order to recognize their influence on our life and work.

Cultivate equanimity: learn meditation practices that help to develop a balanced mind in the face of success and failure, praise and criticism.

Encourage authentic creativity: to discover how a balanced relationship with the eight dharmas can unleash our creative potential, allowing us to work from a place of serenity and clarity.

Create a community of support: generate a space of understanding and mutual support with other artists and creatives facing similar challenges.

To whom it is addressed

Professionals in the artistic, creative and philosophical fields, but also anyone looking for a healthier and more harmonious relationship with their creative process.
